The core of the band, including percussionist Richard Vitale, were inspired by UK Post-Punk & Talking Heads, The Clash, & Eno’s experiments in World Music to create an expansive political art-punk sound. They opened shows for The Dead Kennedys, Minutemen & Bad Brains at CBGBs. No hard and fast document of these times was released, the bands legacy shared through cassette tapes of live shows and reminiscences of dedicated followers during subsequent years.
Now, the SAS recorded legacy deficit has been addressed with the release of the first true studio album by the band. An authentic melodic mashup of horn-rich funk, ghostly dub ballads & Afrobeat kinetics “INSTANT” is a welcome time-capsule revelation that sounds startlingly fresh and on point today.
